What to Wear

Dress

Children are offered a range of valuable sensory experiences at Preschool, both inside and out. While wearing smocks and pulling up sleeves are supported by educators, clothing showing evidence of children's fun is often unavoidable. Physical play including running, climbing, balancing, jumping, kicking balls is also a planned part of the program. Ensuring your child's clothing and footwear supports this activity enables them to safely challenge their physical skills. Footwear such as thongs, gumboots and Crocs affect children's stability and grip and can also be dangerous, particularly when participating in climbing activities. A warm coat and hat or beanie is recommended in winter.

Please provide a change of clothing (labelled) for your child in their bag every day. Accidents do occur with paint, water and toileting.

Majority of preschool children wear the Monash Primary School uniform.  School uniform is a red and navy blue. School Uniforms can be purchased from Savvy School Wear, Homeworld Tuggeranong, Greenway.

Some uniform items can be purchased from a variety of retail stores that sell general school uniform items including Big W, K-Mart and Target.

Our clothing pool is operated by the P&C and sells second-hand uniform items. The uniform shop is pleased to accept second hand uniform items in good condition. Refer to the uniform section of the school newsletter or contact the front office for opening hours.

For families experiencing financial hardship, our school offers assistance with uniforms. Please speak with the Principal for more information.

Sun Smart Practices

hat

Monash Preschool is a SunSmart preschool. Children are required to wear a broad brimmed or legionnaires hat outside all year with the exception of June/July which are hat free months under the SunSmart guidelines. We recommend that you remove the cords from a hat for safety. In accordance with our sun smart policy, if children are not wearing a hat they are required to be restricted to shaded areas whilst outside.

Hats are provided to each preschool child to keep at Preschool as part of the stationery pack. Your child will have a hat waiting for them on the first day of Preschool labelled and ready to use.

We do provide sunscreen for children but encourage parents to apply cream before drop off in the mornings. Please also let staff know if your child has skin sensitivities. Parents are welcome to provide staff with their child's own, labelled, skin sensitive sunscreen. In warmer weather children are not to wear singlet tops rather t-shirts that cover their shoulders.
